Since August 2023, PIKP has been collaborating with partners for capacity building on indigenous peoples’ contributions to biodiversity, the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF), the Philippine Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (PBSAP), and other policies that are relevant to indigenous peoples’ rights and contributions in relation to biodiversity conservation.

With the conduct of the Second National Roundtable Discussion on Indigenous Peoples and Biodiversity last May, indigenous peoples representatives have strengthened commitment towards coming up with an Indigenous Peoples’ Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (IPBSAP) that will serve as:

  •  A guide for indigenous peoples and other organizations for key priorities on biodiversity conservation, sustainable use, and benefit sharing, and for collection of data and case stories on indigenous peoples’ contributions to biodiversity in the Philippines
  • A strategy for the work of the coalition in on-ground action and advocacy
  • A potential submission as a voluntary commitment by Non-State Actors to the implementation of the KMGBF

As we finalize the IPBSAP with partners, we continue to call for full and meaningful participation of indigenous peoples in planning and decision-making processes and the recognition of their unparalleled contributions to biodiversity conservation.
